450 overhaul

I have a 450 gas that is due an overhaul, I am thinking about splitting the tractor to put in a new rear main seal while I am at it. I have never split a tractor with a TA in it, is it a job for average knowledge and average tools, or should I stay away from this? Also the behlin power steering unit works well but has a lot of slop in it, is this normal, can it be overhauled too while the tractor is apart?

Unless you"re planning on working on the TA it won"t be any different than splitting something like an M or an H. The torque will be behind the split.

Thats good news, the TA is fine, had it rebuilt a few years ago, thanks for the info.

If the front and rear mains are not leaking and you do not need to grind the crankshaft you can over haul this engine with a head gasket set and a pan gasket. You can pull the sleeves with the engine in the tractor.
