I have the original square tooth throttle on my M and it has been jumping forward (Skipping teeth) from half and 3/4 throttle to almost nothing, I have to hold the throttle lever in the square notch so it doesnt jump. anyone else have this problem and know why its doing this and how to fix the issue? Thanks guys

~Anthony

Never had any trouble at all with the sawtooth lever on my Farmall M, but it has always been used with care. My Dad and I drive that tractors and occasionally my brother or his wife. Dad made it clear to me and my brother when we first started driving tractors that scraping the lever along the teeth would incur his displeasure, which really meant we would incur sore backsides! However, the Farmall M and the Farmall H I bought last year both had severely worn teeth. The Farmall M had been attacked with a file and the Farmall H had practically no teeth left at all. I guess the M & W lever is better, but personally I can't stand the sight of the thing; it's ugly.

Like all have said: Spring is probably weak and teeth are MOST likely worn. (Cannot see them from over here! lol )

I have ran both kinds and I would not trade my M&W friction type throttle for anything.

I ran a sawtooth on my SMTA for a few years. Then one 4th of July in Durand, IL I was just about to sweep all three weight classes for the day. I was HOLDING my sawtooth throttle (bc they are known to slip) and had to take my hand off to steer. I then finished in third when it went to no throttle and could never regain power. It now has an M&W.

And the fact the friction disc cost about 2 bucks or less means they will last at least 100 more years???(give or take???? ;)

You can get the square tooth new, both oem and aftermarket. Then you might have to take the handle portion off and put in a stiffer spring. Having somebody to help put the cotter key in while you compress the spring is a big help.

the square toothed throttle plate was ih's improvement package. the tooth is replacable like another fellow said. it is an improvement over the ratchet tooth one but still not as good as a friction disc one.

I replaced my saw tooth throttle with a M & W throttle. I'm very happy with the changeover.

I haven't had a problem with a square tooth, only the saw tooth. You might try tightening it.

Everyone has that problem. You can replace the square peg on the handle. If that doesn't work you have to rebuild/resquare your other half.
