what is the best way to check a 6 volt regulator on my h tractor. And if the regulator is bad where is the best place to buy one I know that tractor supply carries USA made ones.THANKS

Best check is to take battery voltage readings with a known accurate analog VOM or high quality DMM. (Cheap digital voltmeters from Radio Shack, Harbor Freight, etc. are notoriously inaccurate on "noisy" old tractor electrics...)

If the generator and regulator are good you will see somewhere between about 7.1 and 7.6 volts at governed RPM.

USA made regulators are OK. Beware of VR's from India, China, etc. - my experience is they're more trouble than they are worth.

I agree with Bob on USA VR, I always got mine from NAPA they been made in USA and had no trouble with them, so the other day I was ordering some parts from Steiner and thought I would just get my VR there also, well now I get to send it back [ works some time ] and still get to go and get one.
