Looking for Eng. Parts - I have a 264 diesel and I'm having a hard time locating them. I have found several of what I believe are 248 diesels. Does anyone know if there are any parts that are usable? ( looking for sleeves, pistons, crank possibly the head ) From what I understand I could possibly buy new parts from CIH but I haven't tried due to the expense. Thanks for all the help

You aren't going to just buy a kit for an SMDTA or any gas start diesel for that matter. You might want to check ebay. There is a guy who just started reproducing 9 series engine parts. That was the first "kit" I have seen in all my years of watching.

What do you mean I haven't tried due to the expense? I think asking first and then determining if it is too much money would be a better plan.

You will also get better guidance if you put more than your tractor model in your post title. You now have 4 posts with the same exact title going this week. You will get more reads and better guidance if you put SMDTA engine parts or something like that. On the upside, it is a SMDTA so more people will read it than if you title said 1947 Farmall M.

Are you asking about USED engine parts? Waste of time and $$. 99.9% of the time you're going to get someone else's worn out crap, and you have no way of knowing just by eyeballing it.

If the cost of new parts is too much for your wallet, either sell the tractor and find something more affordable to work on, or put $20 away in a cookie jar every week until you have enough money.

I also agree on the post titles. Try to be a little more descriptive next time. I wasn't looking at them because I thought you were double-posting by mistake.

You could have bought a money pit. I would bet the head alone will cost $1500 for a good used one. That is if you can find one. Heads were a weak spot on those engines. Used engine parts aren't the way to go.
Good luck though......

If I remember right,I bought parts from joes farmall parts in Pa,we did a SMTADV 2 years ago he did fine buy me If all else fails call wengers just hold on to your shorts

Webers too

CNH when i did my D264, there is no aftermarket parts for them. I searched for a long time for other sources that would be competitive and still ended up back there.

Is it any harder or more expensive to build a d281?

I may have missed an earlier post on this topic, but what is wrong with it (the engine)?, and have you done a step-by step diagnosis, using a GOOD shop manual?

I would start there. Just assuming it needs parts is the wrong way to go about it, IMHO.

Good luck.

In case you have not looked here, maybe this would help? I am not real familiar with the SMTA.

The parts are out there. And they are expensive!! A retired friend of mine is putting one together now. I think he told me the main bearings came from Iowa at the cost of $350. I think he said the pistons-rings-sleeves all came together at the cost of $1600.The gasket kit was over $300. He still has to get injector work done cause he cant find new ones. He just mailed those out. He said if you buy a SMTA diesel get one that is already restored !!
