1466 hydraulic seat

Hi guys. My 1466 has a leaking hydraulic seat. Oil has been seeping out of the top of the cylinder where the rod comes out. I tore it apart and put a new o ring in the inside of the cylinder body. I did not replace the top wiper seal because it was $50 + and I was told it was really only for dirt and not for sealing oil. After a few weeks it started leaking again. The seat doesn"t leak down nearly as bad as before but oil is still coming down and leaking over SCV and rockshaft housing making a mess. Do you guys think it is worth trying that wiper seal or is it a worn rod. The rod/piston costs over $250! Any help or ideas to fix this without great expense would be appreciated.

The wiper is as stated, just a dirt seal. Does your shaft have pits or scratches That oil could leak by. Also my 1586 hydraulic seat did not have o-rings that sealed the cylinder it had a special rod seal.
