Is it possible to replace the pilot bearing in the transmission mainshaft without removing the top cover ?

It looks like the transmission driving shaft bearing cage might let the mainshaft come out the front. Will it ?

Thanks

Reading your question again I see I have said it wrong. You can remove the belly pump and then the U joint, then the input shaft, then the whole front transmission bearing/constant mesh gear assembly slides out the front. Then you can unscrew the bolt from the tip of the transmission upper shaft, pop the pilot bearing off and pop the new one on and reassemble. Usually the bearing is an easy slide off and on, I did have one that was stuck once and I had to tap it off with large punch. If you need to get at the pilot bearing area once the constant mesh gear is removed you can remove 6 bolts and pull the belt pulley housing, which will give you another angle.
