What is the original colors for these parts?radiator, generater ,starter, and rims. Thanks,Mike from south Jersey

The radiator was black, with red overspray on it.
The whole tractor was painted while assembled. There were some parts taped or papered (steering wheel, and distributor cap and generator tag. Theremainder was just sprayed. Black starters and generators are replacements. The radiator was not masked, but was not intentionally painted. The rims were galvanized. Jim

Jim, thank you for answering my question on the part colors,I want to be as accurate as possible on my restoration. Mike Nimitzek

My '48 S/A has a black starter & generator.
It hasn't been repainted as far as I know.

Like all are saying to you below,MOST Farmalls you see today are OVERLY restored. They are being redone WAY MORE"fancy" than they came from the factory.

If you want accuracy,it wont look as pretty as an all out "show tractor".

Just sayin :)

I agree 100%

(quoted from post at 09:48:37 06/05/12) My 41 B has the black starter and generator & they were never replaced. Lights are black too.
hey might have been installed by the dealer, but did not come from the factory on the tractor.

Agree with others that said basically all red but the radiator. From what I understand, even the wiring and radiator hoses were originally painted - everything was sprayed all at once.

Since yours is a 48 and you're trying to keep it original - be sure you get the right decals for it.

For 48 and part of 49 the hood decal should say "McCormick Deering / Farmall" with the IH logo. Later models were the same, but dropped the Deering.

Earlier (A's) decals had the Deering, but not the IH logo.

I did a lot of searching and could not find the proper decals anywhere. Finally tried Maple Hunter. They do have them, but they're vinyl, not the original mylar.

I decided I'd rather have them say the right thing than be the right type of decal, so I went with them. Use great care in applying them! Peeling the backer paper off was a lot more difficult than I expected - and I can tell you the decals do tear easily. But once they're on, they seem pretty permanent.

You also need the special super A round decal - but again Maple Hunter has a whole set for the 48.

The correct police will get you. I would be real careful.

He stated he WANTS it to be correct, presumably for his own personal satisfaction, not in fear of the imagined "correct police."

Only idiots would make statements about correctness offensively, and only idiots would take offense to statements made by idiots...
