706 pto not engaging

Worked the 706 this weekend spraying brush with a pto pump. I went to engage it toward the end of the day and nothing (hydraulic level full to over full).
I think it's probably the pin that has been mentioned before. I need to take out the bottom plug to check it but the 3 point linkage is in the way. How far do you have to disassemble it in order to remove the bottom pto plug?

Thanks.

I think you can get the plug out to see if the pin is the problem but you cannot get the valve out the bottom if the pin is the problem. For me, I always felt it was easier to pull the pto out than to remove a bunch of the hitch to get valve in and out and then if something else was problem you already have pto out.

Unless you have a very early 706 with the two piece hitch casting it is going to be like Pete posted, the later ones used a single piece that prevents the valve from dropping out the bottom.

If you can pull the valve stem out the top of the PTO housing you have broken pin.
