Yes Virginia, you CAN weld Farmall sheet metal with a stick welder.

Stitched her all back up with 1/16" 6013 rod on 35A DC. A little more work with the hammer and dolly, a skim coat of filler, and she'll be good as new.

IMHO, this is how you Git-R-Done old school style!

That will do er !!!! (Somebody put that "alternator ecape hatch" in it I see. :)

My Great uncle used to weld up body panels with an acetylene torch using old coat hangers WAY "back in the day" . ;)

Oxy-acetylene welding is a skill I hope to acquire some day.

Dang coat hangers are all PLASTIC these days, though... Gotta buy some actual welding rod.

I had to replace a rear quarter on a 57 Chev. Read up on the "hammer welding" and did that. Check it out.

Australian Number 8 wire (long after it has lost its galvanizing) makes wonderful welding rod for oxy-acetylene work. We have miles of the stuff on the farm. Dad welded up some tractor panels with it years ago and they are still in good order. Nice welding job on that panel! Good to see quality work.

It took a couple of hours.

Mostly, because I was apprehensive about burning through, and because I had to keep chipping off slag every few tacks... That 6013 rod makes more slag than 7018.

I had a 16ga mild steel backer plate clamped to the hood during the welding, but I never burned completely through to it.
