Very dissapointed about this!!

I hesitate to bring this up but I'm wanting to vent a little and get some advise on what you guys would do.

The Show Me Tractor Cruise for this year has been cancelled and from what I can tell will no longer be held. I know none of the details as to why this has happened. This was to be the 10th annual cruise. During last years event there was a lot of talk and excitment about this year cruise being it was the 10th anniversary. I know of a lot of people who were looking forward to this. It is always held the last weekend in June and we typically get letters mailed by some time in early May. After not recieving any information and wondering what was going on I check the website and it was announced there that after 9 years we've given up. Thanks for a good time. I just feel this was a poor way of handeling things. I'm sure most of the men that usually ride on the cruise have never even looked at the website in the entire history of the cruise. Another thing to add is that I along with numerous other drivers from last year paid for the DVD that has always been put together. There has been no DVD put together and no means to make things right with getting my money back.

Maybe I shouldn't care or even say anything not know why this happened. I just feel this was a poor way of handeling this situation. This was a large cruise that a lot of people attended and raised a lot of money.

I'll shut up now.

Only taking an educated guess here but with the way the economy is and all the gov cut backs I would say the cops where told they could not do there part in it and then with the cost of fuel being as it is may not have had a lot of people want to do it. I have heard of it but never been to that ride. Held to far from me to be there

i can agree some with OLD'S statement, our club had a event planned with a country store festival in Sept, find out they're closing end of June, club printed up raffle tickets, fliers, etc,,, we're in the dark as why so,,on some past events, it always the same members that have to do the work to put on a show, and one's comes to it and complains it wasn't done this or that way,,yet they never help, some times, members had enough of the b-s from others never helping! p/s i hope you didn't loose much $$$ for video, hope you can get it back...

Of course I don"t know why they cancelled but it may just be because the folks who really make it happen got fed up with doing all the work required to organize the event. I think most clubs have problems with the limited number of members that are willing to put themselves out. Everybody likes to just show up and have fun.

Just make plans and do your own. That's what I'd do. If the "official" one is canceled you won't be stepping on anyone's toes. If you need any guidance the Nebraska Antique Farming Assn is doing a 9 day drive state line to state line east to west. We started yesterday.

Seems like I read somewhere that Missouri made some changes in the laws regarding such things as tractor cruises. You may want to contact your state representative and get his/her opinion.

Who knows, perhaps one or more of their sponsors backed out at the last minute. Obtaining or providing insurance could have been an issue also.
I'd say if you could get enough guys together you could do your own, stay on the back roads & off the interstates it definitely could be done, if everyone has the SMV triangle visible, along with a trailing vehicle with flashers I don't see a problem.

Thats what I would do too but looking at the website, it looks like they registered the name (Show-Me Tractor Ride) and registered the art work that they use on the webpage. Just means you have to change what you call your tractor ride. Hurry up and mail out some flyers to coops and dealerships and hope for the best.

Hi Seth, I also was planning on going and had invested a lot of money and time getting ready to go up with some friends. What I understand is that the couple the do all the work and put the thing on have run into some hard times. Its my understanding that the wife has passed away and the husband is in very poor shape. Don’t know any more details than that. I do know that they had announced this spring that before all of this happened that this would be their last year. I’m sure it is a lot of work. I am disappointed also but guess that’s how things go. I am now going on a shorter ride the same weekend at the Dallas county fair.

This is a pic of a carrier I have been working on for that ride to take the granddaughter on. I have two spring seats that will sit on it. Putting the floor on it now and the gate is not on it in this photo.

In response to your comment of disappointment to the Show Me Tractor Cruise, I understand your disappointment. However people DO NOT understand what it takes to put on an event like that. I know, as I was the event organizer and chair person for the Dream Factory Tractor Crusie held in the Kansas City area. It's not easy just to pick a date, get Insurance for an event like that (because somebody would sure like to sue someone if something went wrong), send out information, get all the permits that are needed to drive on the public roads, get local police and emergency personal together, let alone have a committee to figure out how to feed that many people, get t-shirts or door prizes together, have persons at the registration table when you get there, arrange for hotels accommodations, have entertainment, have enough people to help park vehicle when they arrive whether on Friday night or Saturday morning. So with all that being said, I do understand your dissapointment in you just showing up and driving your tractor a few miles and then go home after it is all over with. Then after a long day you have to have people there to clean up after everyone goes home. There are lot's of Tractor Cruise's over the state of Missouri. Since you are heart set on the North Missouri area, why don't you sign up for the Heart of America cruise at the end of June! Just a thought.
