I have a nice running Farmall 300 with PTO. Is it big enough, horsepower wise, to run a 2 string PTO baler ?? Baler is 100 miles away so out of the question to drive over and try it. How many horse is the 300 ??? Thanks

Sam that would have plenty of power. It was the successor to the Super M. We used one of my Hs for years to bale hay and straw.

There have been a lot of bales made with Farmall H years ago. It was slow going and a learning curve because of no live PTO. The 300 is the next gen brother to the H with more power, live PTO and a Ta. It will do just fine. Some trial nand error on the size of the windrow. If you roll the hay for a big power tractor you will have trouble. Start small and go from there,

I've used my 350 hi utility on my Gehl 9 ft. It does OK, I can't run 5 MPH up a steep hill like I can with my 806. I'd say it'll do it, but slower in heavy hay.

I have been using an H to run a 9 foot NH haybine and a square baler for the past couple of years with good results, and now I am working on a 300 which I think will be a big step up in convenience, especially with TA and IPTO. For this year I will still be using the H, though.

Well you did not say the model of the square baler which would be wise to know. There are a few modern square balers that require some serious hp to run due to their high capacity.

That all said a 300 will easily run pretty much all the older vintage square balers and even most of the modern square balers of lower capacity.

Well since no one told you I will. As per the neb test list I have a 300 gas is 38HP more then enough to run most any of the older square balers like say a NH271 or other such New Holland baler. Or a JD 14T or 24T or 224 etc

F300 rowcrop is around 34 hp, it does have live pto & t/a, these come in very handy with baling hay. What brand of baler do you plan on using and what are the HP requirements of it?

My BIL has run a 300 on a IH # 56 and later a Ford 542 baler at hi-altitude Gunnison,Co,(8000 ft) for over 50 years...One year we even tried the H,but it struggled.

Heck we baled hay with a BN for years. I pulled a NH 66 PTO baler and it worked okay.
