Hey all, just picked up a farmall M with a wide front, live hydraulics, and a 3pt hitch and all the oil is milky as well as hydraulic fluid. So im trying to buy some parts for this thing to get it in good working order and I cant figure out what year it is. Serial Number is 27439 thats all. Block sais 6722-DJ. Anyone have any idea what year this tractor is? Also whats the best way to bleed the hydraulics to get all the old milky fluid out? Thanks!

It's more expensive then years ago but i drain the system then fill back up with diesel run for a couple of minutes then drain.

Unless you missed a number the parts don't match. 27439 would be a 41 model like the other poster said. But a block casting number 6722DJ is newer than that. See what the engine block serial number is. Look on a raised small flat area below the first spark plug and above the ignition unit. Will be stamped in and have some letters before the number and may have a letter or letters and number or numbers after the main serial #. Sometimes they extend below the serial #.

Well the serial number starts with FBK. In full its FBK-27439. The block has a number but its hard to read. Its something like FBK 17F389 then sais X1 below that. Thanks!

The F would be a number instead of the letter.
X1 showes the engine was made to use gasoline fuel. Tractor serial # would have X1 after it if original also. Anyway if the first 2 engine serial numbers are correct the engine came in a last two months of a 48 model or in the first 3 months of 49 model tractor. Need the third number to get closer.

Yes thats when the engine block was cast. It probably went in a feb. or march tractor.
1= jan. 27= day of month, S=1949.

Great thanks! Ill try flushing it with diesel! This may be a dumb question but where do i fill the hydraulics? I have a 2 way vale coming from the top and i have one coming out the side of the belly pump with a 90deg elbow and what looks like a small cup on top with a plug. Is that my fill port?
