966 charging or ground problems

Im have some problems with my 966, It stop charging the other day figure the alt it tested bad. Installed a new 75amp alt and it hardly charges checkes good and test stand. But when Turn the lights on my fuel gauge goes to fuel and the alt does not charge at all. Thought it may be a ground installe new ground cable still does the same thing. Im new to the red side of things so any info or help would be great thankyou

Measure the charging voltage across the battery terminals using a volt meter. Should see about 14.5 volts with the engine at 1/2 throttle or better. Does your alternator have an internal regulator or external? How old is the battery?
Measure the specific gravity in each cell using a hydrometer to see what readings you get. Should see 1.270 and each cell reading should be be close to one another. Hal
