oil for a belly pump?

It looks like im going to run rotella 15w-40 in my M, should I run the same in the belly pump or do you all recommend something else? Manuel just says oil....Ill be using a saginaw hitch...Thanks for the help gentlemen

As I recall my manuals states to use SAE 30W non-detergent oil for the belly pump which is what I use in my H and M tractors. I believe the non-detergent variety won't foam as much as the detergent oils, Hal.
 
Use 30 weight unless you are sharing implements with a tractor that uses hydraulic fluid. No advantage to Hytran or equivalent otherwise.
 
I had 30 wt in my H and then switched to hytran to run the haybine. Hytran is a little cheaper and is more universal to mix with other hydraulic systems.

Rotella 15w-40 is an excellent choice to use in the engine, but is NOT appropriate for a hydraulic system. Original specs for the belly pump called for 30 weight NON detergent for warm weather use, 20 weight for cooler weather, and 10 weight for extreme cold weather, but please understand that when these tractors were built 70 years ago, the recommended fluids were the absolute best there was. Much better oils exist today, and the best oil for the belly pump today is the Case-IH Hy-tran, OR the universal 303 fluid you can get at your local farm store.
 
I know the book calls for 30w. non det., but Dad ran 20w. non det. year round without any problem's. The loader would lift anything that you could keep the rear wheels on the ground without any problem.
 
I have a saginaw hitch and belly pump on my 51 H. I use 30 wt non det and it works just fine, but is slow to go down in winter with the grader blade on it. Takes a while for the oil to get warmed up. My set up doesn't have power downforce. In summer it goes down nice.
