Wheatland is the new row crop

I'm sure when IH built the letter and number series Wheatland tractors, they never in a million years figured farmers would be planting in 30" rows.

Dad bought a "new" planter this year, a JD7000 set for 30" rows. He does his own spraying with a 3pt sprayer, but none of the "front line" tractors is set for 30" rows. Too much work to narrow one down just to spray 50 acres of corn, and he doesn't want to leave it that narrow all year.

Long story short, turns out the W-400's tread width is dead-nuts on for 30" rows. The sprayer has now grown a set of wheels.

If only we had Wardner's Fast Hitch setup.

Apparantly, the only letter series tractor that you can get 60" with the wheels dished out is the C (not much of a dish). The H,M,SH,SM,460, and I assume the 560, can be 60 inches or less with the wheels dished in -- yes a lot of work.

But you could remove the floorboard and drawbar and put on the 450-560 Fast Hitch with 2pt to 3pt adaptor.

Won't a 300 to 450 etc work 30 inch rows with the wheels dished out?
Woops you said letter series.

They'll work with the wheels dished out if you have the rims on the outer bevels.

The original problem was that none of the tractors with 3pt are set for 30" rows, and it is a LOT of work to set them for 30" rows, then change them back.

We definitely need a Fast Hitch for this thing... The microburst last week washed gullies down through the corn in a couple of fields, and it's going to need cultivating to smooth those out.

My 350 operators manual says it will with power adjust wheels. It also says 68 inches without power adjust--it did not state whether it had double bevel rims. I would think the 350 would with double bevel (mine has power adjust), I doubt if the 450 would, but I'm not sure. The cultivation problem usually occurs after the crop has some size on it, dished out probably works with small crops, but I haven't cultivated with a Farmall anything since 1958.

It was just one piece at a time. The cage for the cylinder did give me some trouble. A lot of fitting there. The rest of the stuff is simply putting it in place and marking it before machine work or welding. Not sure on the hours but probably over 50.

I have made some changes since that picture. Took out the flatbars and made some vertical lift links that go to the horizontal 3pth links. Hitch is holding up a military hydraulic winch. Down pressure anchors it into the ground with a large piece of ship's channel across the back.
