One More H Carb & Venturi Question

So, my new venturi from McDonald Carb & Ignition will be here tomorrow. I have one question as I get ready to install it...

When I took the old one out I didn't notice any part of the gasket between it and the carberator, but it looks like the gasket is sized for that. [b:eea5ff3d28]Can anyone confirm for me if the gasket goes under the venturi?[/b:eea5ff3d28] I've checked the parts catalog and it wasn't any help.

Thanks! I hope to have a running H within a week!

I don't remember. But it is only going to fit properly one way. If it is supposed to be under, it will not lay flat if over. So it either has to be under or it doesn't touch it. I think that the gasket fits around it and doesn't touch it. You will know when you get it.

Not to worry! The venturi drops into a counterbore in the casting then the gasket lays over of it.

The parts can go together only one way that will leave the gasket flat - it will be evident when you try it.

Thanks for the help guys, the reason I need a venturi in the first place is that the gasket didn't fit over the rectangular end of the venturi and I had to take it out (and I broke it).

I'm guessing that I need to put the gasket down and then install the venturi..

No, venturi first. You have to manuever the gasket around the edges of the venturi. Ive never saw one that wasnt a kinda tight fit, even on the cheapo kits. You could trim it up a bit if you want to.

Thanks, John M. I had a feeling that when I broke the venturi trying to get it out that I was doing something I probably didn't need to do.

Live and learn :)

Just a heads up, but the vast majority of the H carb kits available contain a main bowl gasket that will not fit over the venturi. The hole in the gasket is too small, and it is slightly mis-located also. The kits I sell are that way when I get them, but they are NOT that way when I sell them.

Good to know, Rustyfarmall. I just went to the parts counter at the CaseIH dealer for mine and it must be on the small side.

Do you have a website or catalog?

Take a Dremel tool & trim the gasket to fit AFTER the venturi is installed.
Today's gaskets leave much to be desired!

Well, I ended up installing the gasket under the venturi. When I cleaned up the old gasket I had to trim it around the venturi and as I took the broken venturi out, there was a ring of gasket that was captured under it. I don't think it can hurt either way, so I put the new one under the venturi to match what I had before.

Thanks for everyone's help.
