C301 vs. C263

I've got a 706 gasser with the 263, like everyone
says SHE'S A GAS HOG! Just wonddering if anyone
has got a C301 in a 706, and if so does it use
much more fuel?

The 301 was the gas motor for the 806. The Nebraska test for a 301 806 was 7.5gph at max drawbar pull. It would be worse.

I thought if the difference was small it would be worth it, I've got an extra block to play with.

I would stay with the 263; it should use less fuel than the 301, and the 263 has sleeves, whereas the 301 is non sleeved, if I remember correctly. I could be wrong. I think they made a 263 sleeveless also, but not in the tractors.

Give it a good tune-up; either way you are going to use at least 5 gallons and hour doing any kind of work, and 2 gallons an hour just idling!

Good luck!
