farmall 140 leaking water

Found a 140 that looks like a very, very good tractor. It is a late year model and the owner died years ago. The wife might be willing to sell. It will run, but when you add water to the radiator it leaks out of the bell housing. I have never had one apart and was wondering if there might be a freeze plug on the back of the block that could be rusted through. I see nothing else wrong with it. Just wanting another opinion, and thanks in advance.

I believe there is a core plug in that location. Pulling the engine (still atached to the bolster) is not too difficult. The flywheel and engine plate must be removed. Jim

Yeah, soft plug on the back of the block.

Split the tractor at the bell housing/engine, pull the clutch and flywheel. You will then see 2 soft plugs. The smaller one is at the end of the camshaft and isn't the problem. The larger one goes into the water jacket. Pop it out, clean up a bit, pop the new one in.

just what they said and also gives a good chance to check out clutch parts,my a had the same issue, not too bad to fix.
have fun, stumper
