stuck clutch

Any ideas on freeing up a clutch disc that is stuck to the flywheel on a 364? Preferably without breaking the tractor in half.

Try driving the tractor in an open area in low gear and see if it will release. Pull something heavy if you have it. Hal

To add to the previous post hook the biggest thing you got for draft (plow, disc, blade, box blade....) and go to work, try pulling it while you're holding the clutch IN. The idea is that way only the rust is holding the disc to the flywheel if the rust is not as strong as your clutch springs it just might come free.

There are a number of ways that might work. Blocking the clutch pedal down for a few days may do it. Or drive it around in the highest gear you can safely do so in since the higher the gear the more pull is put on the clutch so more likely to free up sooner. Then if you can also add some sort of load to it that helps more. BUT only do the driving thing if you can do so in a safe way because you will not be able to stop it till the clutch frees up so you could run something over that you do not want to run over. You can also pull the starter off and then spray brake cleaner spray on the clutch which may also free it up

get someone to push start then push in the clutch and then hit the brakes hard just mite do it. I had a SC that i had to split to release the disc nothing else worked.

If I leave mine set in warmer, damper weather after running it,it will stick after setting a few days.(BTW,I leave it pointing OUT of the barn ;)

Just fire it up in gear and run it for awhile. After about 3 or 4 clutch dis engagement,it will come undone. ;)

I hope it unsticks itself before you try and hook up any type of implement to help break the clutch loose. Id hate to read about you trying to back up to something, couldnt stop in time and killed yourself.

Probably not the best method in the world but my grandpa is a retired mechanic and there was or still is a telephone pole outside of his shop that was short and looked like it had been through 10 wars. I asked him one day why it is there and he said when people had a stuck clutch and not very much money he would either hook a chain to it and the tractor or put the nose of the tractor on it and let her rip he said it never failed to work. I just wonder how many tractors were running around with crushed grills haha.

runniong in gear,. full throttle. hold clutch down. stomp brakes as hard as you can. should break it loose or kill engine, if engine kills with full horse power applied to clutch it will probably need to come apart. caution be prepared to shut engine off if it doesen't release. we don't need a tractor up a tree , over a vehicle in a creek, ect. your friends don't like going to funerals

Coworker said that his Grandfather had over greased the throw out bearing on his F-12 to the point that the clutch would stick and not release. He took hand fulls of old grease out of it. With that in mind, you may want to spray some degreaser product in it first.

Agreed. Really, only a skilled operator should be trying these "stunts" to get the clutch freed up. You really need to be familiar enough with the machine to know at least two other ways to stop the tractor besides pushing the clutch pedal, and to be able to execute those backup plans in a panic situation.

Just try that one out a few times at low gear/low speed first.

Stomping on the brakes at high speed is a real bad time to find out that only one side locks up.

Well it is finally unstuck. Tried all kinds of suggestions from blocking clutch pedal down to going up a steep hill in 3rd high don't know which did the trick but I was driving it around today stepping on brakes throwing clutch in and out and when I got back to the shed pulled out the fuel shut off and threw the clutch and it was free. Thanks for all the suggestions. I can sleep soundly tonight.
