Cultivated today with some pics

Thanks to all who said about hydraulics for the lift. I tried to do
both by hand. Not worth it. I rigged it so that I used my 3x8
cylinder and it can raise them and I use gravity to lower them.
Need to fine tune it. Really didn't need to cultivate but wanted to
try and we got rain so the weeds started sprouting today.
The last picture there is all my equipment lined up

I have spent many an hour on rigs very similar to yours there cultivating soybeans and corn. I always thought it was a peacefull and satisfying job. Farmers enjoy killing weeds I think !

I see your sliding shields laying there next to the tractor, you didn t install them? I converted my last H cultivator to rolling shields which worked good for me. I never cultivated with an M before, only Hs and Cs. Steers hard I guess ? lol You sure wouldn t run out of power though!

Let's just say I don't have the straightest rows. I have some potatoes that we planted by hand and they are crooked so I took them off. And I cultivate at an idle in second gear. It's a super m so it never runs out of power. Hahaha

I never had to use a manual lift, but my dad was very fussy that the tractor had to be moving when the gangs came out of the ground. You will learn to keep your spacing between planter passes rather standard. You have one middle there in the next to the last picture that you will not be able to work. Nice set up but you have too much tractor for the job. Since you planted 4-rows you need to find a 4-row cultivator set up. Just a suggestion, but for the rear wheel plows or "eliminators" I would mount one sweep directly behind the wheels for the outside and in dead center for the middle. Take the others off. It will make the second cultivation pass much easier.

I know its a lot of tractor but my H has a loader on it I didn't want to take it off. I am planning on buying another H and having a sole cultivator tractor. This is just what I had available. I did manage to turn these hand lifts into hydraulic ones using my 3x8 and man did it make a difference. Plus this works great because it does the 4 rows I plant with my planter. Well the 3 rows of weeds in the middle and I am just going to have to deal with the weeds on the outside of those rows. Thanks for the advice.

Um...isn't that a 2 row cultivator? Aren't you supposed to do half the row on one pass and half on the next pass? OR do everyother and then come back on the opposite path? If it was a 3 row cultivator it would have 3 sweeps on the outside. That and I never heard of a three row cultivator.

Technically yes it is a 2 row. And I'm sure I am probably doing it
wrong. I cultivate on both sides of 2 rows. The outside 2 rows I
only get one side of because I didn't have a row marker they are
irregularly spaced. So I just ran down the middle of what my 4 row
planter planted and I can cultivate inbewtween the 4 rows. Just not
the outside of the 1st and 4th row. I know it's far from perfect but
it'll work till next year when I put the row markers on.

I follow what your plan is. Your guess rows are a mess.

I have seen a guy or two attatch a pipe/2x4 to the front of the tractor and then drop a chain to mark your next row. This would take the place of your row marker if you don't have them. It is more common when using a drill, but it should work for a planter.

An M isn't too much tractor to cultivate with IMO.

Also, you should add power steering and RTK and you won't need your markers.
