Shipping Fever for tractors

Tractors must get shipping fever or something...

I literally bought my Super M off a guy's manure spreader. He was using it every day to pull a huge manure spreader on some pretty rugged terrain, and he didn't seem like the type to "spare the rod."

Since I've owned it, it's plowed exactly 1/2 of an acre and gone on a couple of short joyrides.

While plowing, the valve cover gasket started dumping oil on the hot exhaust manifold. Today the front seal on the power steering sprang a leak while I was giving the nephews rides.

I don't get it. This guy was using this tractor every day without problems. All I did was truck it home, put it in the shed, and treat it nice.

Naturally I'm skeptical of anything people say, but there was absolutely no indication that the guy was hiding anything.

If you hauled it home, there is your problem right there, vibration from the ride. Should have kept the tires on the ground and drove it home and it wouldn't be falling apart now.

Here's the problem, you brought it home and put it in the shed. He was using it every day. An every day user will cause less problems that an occasional user I have found over the year's.

SH_T happens, I get it.

Isn't it just funny how just buying a tractor causes 15 new problems?

Ever notice how a tractor, rake or mower will work fine when you run it and within a few minutes of letting someone else use it it is toast. I worked at a farm store once where we sold chain saws, it seemed like most of the ones that came in to be repaired or replaced, "in a basket" had been loaded out by the owner.

This is normal. I've seen this over the last 20 years of buying cars, trucks, tractors and machinery.

In it's new home the machine goes through a freak-out period of adjustment to a new routine.

Don't worry, it will pass!
