Farmall 460D won't start....Need help PleaseI

I am trying to get the Farmall 460 Diesel to start, but she won"t. I thought the glow plug meter was bad, because when I hold the glow plug meter button, the needle in the guage did not move...So I replaced the meter. No luck..I changed the glow plug meter switch...no change...now what? Where should I look and how do I troubleshoot? Need the girl to start so I can bushhog.

I did put the test light on from the battery to the one side of the meter switch...power is there until I push the switch, then it disappears. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I got to get those glow plugs to get hot for her to start.

Check the wiring from the switch/meter to the glow plugs. If you have powe rto the glow plugs then one or more are bad.

They are in series with each other. Just like small base Christmas tree lights of old. Or miniature lights now. One goes out they all go out. Jim

Unplug the glo-plugs one at a time & test with an ohmmeter on the Rx1 scale from the glo-plug electrical connector to ground. A plug that is burned out will show infinity on the meter.
Don't overlook a bad connection on the heavy feed wire.

actually jim, not the case any one can burn out and rest will work. they all have the same ground and the same + wire. have experienced one burn out and rest work just it puffs white smoke on that cyl. and a little harder starting.

Question...so I took at test light / volt tester and did this. Unpluged each wire - one at a time to see if I had voltage to each wire. I had voltage except to one. What is that telling me? I had a dim to medium light on 5 out of 6.

Maybe try to clean the connection (spade) that connects to the glow plug. It sounds like a low voltage deal. My 460 is not getting my glow plugs hot enough but just enough to start when warm out. I think my meter reads about 3/4 of the way across the gauge.

The clue to your problem is in your second paragraph. You are losing voltage to the switch either from a poor cable or connection or a weak battery. If the engine cranks OK you can rule out the battery. I don't remember if the wire to the glow plug switch comes from a junction block or if it comes direct from the starter battery connection. Just keep going back from the switch toward the battery to see where the voltage drop occurs and you will find your problem.
