Well, I got my Grandpa's '52 H to my place, but I've got some work ahead and will be bugging you guys with questions :) Here is the thread about the trip home.

Anyway, I broke the throat (is that what it is called?) trying to get it out to install a new gasket.

[b:65c4c807bf]Any tips on getting it out, where it can get a new one, and installing it?[/b:65c4c807bf]

That busted part is the "venturi". It's cast out of pot metal (zinc); is somewhat delicate as you discovered!

The venturi is supposed to slip fit into the body casting. Most likely rust/gum has stuck it hard in the casting. Heating lightly and tapping with a hammer should free it up.

A tractor boneyard is probably your best source for a replacement venturi, or a complete replacement carb. (Judging from your photos your carb may have other issues from internal corrosion...)

You need to contact "rustyfarmall" who frequents this forum. The part you have broken is the venturi (p/n 45118D or 64986D they are optional to each other per my parts catalog) and I believe somewhat hard to obtain but I have never needed a replacement so not really positive. It is a very critical part of your updraft carb on the tractor for getting fuel into the cylinders. Send me an email (email is open) and I will forward contact information for rusty if desired as I have used him for numerous carb issues, Hal.

Search mcdonald carb and ignition site under individual carburetor parts, IH carburetor. New one is $35. Maybe someone knows a cheaper source.

Remove butterfly and use the appropriate size deep socket as a
punch, from the top side. Tap till it comes out. I've done several
and haven't damaged any yet.

Great info, guys. I'll check the local Case dealer on Tuesday and see if it is any cheaper than McDonald's. The socket idea is a good one. I'll see if I can get it soaking tomorrow as well.

Thanks!

Not sure if there are dealers in the U.S., but the Farmall H (and bigger Farmall M) carburetters are made by Zenith. There are still various Zenith dealers and repairers around here. I took my carburetter to a place called Wilson Carburettors and they rebuilt it, including attaching it to a Holden grey motor afterward and making sure it would operate. Not much use to you guys in the U.S., but in general what I can find her can be found ten times over in your part of the world. Good luck.

You are correct, Those carburetors were built by Zenith, BUT, they were built to IH specifications and none of the parts will interchange with any other Zenith carburetor.

Also, the venturi for the H carburetor is obsolete. No longer available from Case-IH.

Not likely you will find one in a salvage yard either unless you buy the complete carburetor and if the tractor it was on was a "fence row find", most likely the carburetor will not be any better than what you have.

I have one or two brand new venturis, and a couple of used venturis, but none are for sale.

rustyfarmall,

Thanks for the info. I'll check my local case dealer tomorrow and see if I get lucky, if not I'll order one from McDonald Carb and Ignition as suggested.

Thanks!
