My son has posed this question to me a few times...and I' curious how others would respond.
"If you could own only one tractor over 50 yrs old and under 50 hp, and you can't sell it or trade it for another, what would you have?"

Farmall 200 with front cultivators, planters, and side dressers (I have it now). It would need the 2-point/3-point conversion.

I'm with Dave.A Ford 961,live PTO,about 45 or so horse 3 point and a row crop great tractor.And i own all Red.

Farmall H, 1947 model for fun (however I do have a backup Ford 5000 for farming).
However after finishing restoration of the H, I hope to purchase a JD B, hand start.

A lot depends on what and how much you want to do with it.
For my 2 acer garden the Cubs are just about rite for me.

I am partial to my Ford 961 diesel.

I could never get by with just one tractor since no one tractor will do every thing. Shoot I have 5 out in the hay field right now and not one will do the job of the other ones

UGH it just dawned on me that my first H drive in Grandpa's barn lot at idle in first gear was 50 years ago!

I'd probably go with a 460U...TA, live hydraulics, and live PTO...and a Fast Hitch with a quick-hitch type 3-point adapter. [OK, the ENGINE was rated at 61HP, but the PTO and drawbar HP didn't go over 50 HP...so I hope this fits the criteria.]

I guess it would be my super H. When Dad bought it in 53 it was the first super H sold by the local dealer. I still remember how it shined when they delivered it. Hope to completely repair all the leaks and paint it next yr.

Getting older i think Buzzman is close, but i would want a 460D High Utility with the big 38" tires! Way to old and fat to keep cralling over the back! Bud.

Farmall 450 gas with 16.9-38 rear tires....and NARROW front with 6.50-16's. No clumsy, gawlky wide front for me...if it's gotta be my only tractor.

Second choice would be a John Deere 720 diesel narrow front with same size tires.

I have a Massey Harris 44 with wide front, live hydraulics and 3 point. I would put it up against an M any day. That is my vote. I do not know if a Ford 801 is old enough.

I think it"s hard to beat my SMTA with 2000 loader, wide front, power steering and I have installed a 2pt hitch off of a 450 on the rear. This unit is sure a nice yard tractor. She does the chores for me. charlie

For me it would be a toss up......961 Ford or maybe a 504 Farmall at the upper end og the 50 hp limit

and at the lower end Ford 2000 640 or 8N.

Well, Since my old 806 doesn't quite fit the critera...

1st choice is an M or MD with live hydraulics and power steering. 9 Speed would be nice, too. Preference goes to the diesel, I hate putting fuel in things.

2nd choice is a C or Super C. Handiest little tractor for moving things in and out of the barn, and around the yard.

Easy...

Under 50 hp it would be a 1934 McCormick Deeering WD40.

Over 50 hp it would be a 1922 Case 40-72 crossmotor.

Unfortunately I can't afford either one!
