What Engine Do I have?

I have just purchased a 560 D with what I was told was a 301 Combine Engine. A buddy stopped over and looked at it. He thinks not and I dont know. What do I look for and where is it stamped and what number means what. He thought might be a German Engine.

Pictures help, but if it was a 301 it would be stamped on the block upfront. Also where the engine bolts to the plate you will have nuts instead of bolt heads.

If it is diesel, it will be a 282 IH engine. If it was changed at some point, it could be several.

No. The diesel in a 715 combine was a 301 diesel, a 282 punched out a bit. The later ones came with the German 310 I believe. But the early ones were 301 gas or 301 diesel.

Right side up front was a machined boss
reading top to bottom
as near as I can read front to back
first row 6 or c 1DF2G
