IH 3 point top link

Looking for a little help with a top link for my 340U. I will try to attach a pic of the rear of my tractor. I don't know exactly what this system is called, if you know please tell me.

My problem is that normal top links are too long for this system. Ideas of what to do were flying through my head, then I went to an auction and there was a tractor there with the answer. It had what appeared to be a factory made top link for this system. Unfortunately, my wife wouldn't let me buy the tractor just to get the link.

Does anyone know if these are available anywhere? I searched the internet, but have not called a dealer.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Go buy a cheap top link.Cut a section out of the middle and weld it back together.Grind the weld smooth and paint...

Bates Corp. makes the IH/fast hitch bolt in top link. Last one I bought was $125, plus S&H.

They work really well. Not sure if it will work with that special set-up you have there.

Best of luck.

IH parts book TC-53, page 330 items 29 thru 41 make up the top link assembly. This book is for a 240U, but the 340 top link will be the same. However, DeltaRed has the right idea... I doubt you can find the parts or assembly at a dealer any more. maybe if there is a salvage yard close you might get real lucky.

They make center links or top links that are long one or shorter ones. I have found them in 2 or 3 lengths and in your case you need a shorter one. My local Farm and home place has the common long one and then they have one that is about 6 inches shorter

The top link should be like the one on my 230. It has a little crank on one end and is quite short. I have it pulled up with a bungee cord in the picture so it's sort of vertical. Looks like a short bolt on the back end. Mine came with the tractor when I bought it a few years ago.

At my local (Moultrie, Ga) CIH/MF dealership and the local JD dealers all have an assortment of top links of various lenghts including the short links like you will need. The area is very agricultrual. I have seen similar displays at tractor and tractor supply stores in the ATL area.

Yes Ferd, that is what I saw. For the money, I was thinking of cutting and welding a regular top link like was mentioned

All you need is a couple of flat straps of steel the right length with holes drilled in them. Drill several holes at intervals to make it "adjustable."

If you want to get sophisticated you can go with some heavy-wall square tubing, but odds are better you have some flat stock on hand.

This will work in a pinch and you can continue your search for the "correct" top link while you continue to use the tractor.

If you know any Ford guys, the 9N-2N-8N original
top link was two plates bolted together with the proper ends.
They usually ended up thrown in the corner
before ebay times.
Also, modern Kubota cat 1 hitches come with a very short toplink
