Front wheel weights Farmall A

I'm re-newing a Farmall A and will put a new Woods belly mower on it to use as a "Lawnmower".
No front wheel weights, rear ones weigh over 100 lbs each. How desirable?, Necessary? are the front weights? Thanks, John

I wouldn't think you'd "need" them for mowing. They do look cool.

I have them on my Super C and frame weights. It has a tricycle front end and 2 point fast hitch. It get's pretty light in the front end with the plow and or disc. Pictures shows Super C with C251 planter.

Here is a picture of mine with them, not needed for mowing though. But that's the way grandpa had it so how I leave it.

I wouldn't bother with any weights if you've got ag tires on. I'd think the less weight the better to minimize tread marks.

Instead of spending money on front weights, I'd look for some used turf tires.

Haven't used them myself, but i'd imagine if you've got any decent hills, rear weights might help keep you from spinning.

Can't see any use for front weights though.

Front weights run anywhere from $75-$100 each. They're nowhere near as common as rear weights, and a lot of people are looking for them.

I was very fortunate to come across mine on eBay for $95 for the pair. I think what made them sell so cheap was the fact they were pickup only. I was working in Western Maryland at the time, so I had to drive 4 hours over near York PA. Had the company truck so there wasn't gas out of my pocket, just my time driving. Otherwise asking price on front weights are $150-$200 for a pair.

I have 2 sets of them. I would sell both sets for $250. Western, Pa 30 mile snorth of PGH, Pa

As Gene said you probably don't need front weights for mowing, but if you try to pull anything heavy, be careful. I had my A come up in front, it's kinda scary. Put weights on front and it's been ok. Also never try to pull anything hooked above the axil. craig
