what may cause the engine to not suck gas up on a cold engine? its a hand crank A and rebuilt last year. 70 on compresion, till i do it rite, and a rebuilt carb from an ag parts place. thanks andrew. the ag place ask me to ask this in this way. thanks every one.

Really basic, but do you have a good manifold/gasket ? Is your timing right on with the Mag? Start with some of the basic stuff first. Also just to add that an engine with new pistons and sleeves. Can be very hard to start with the hand crank. Have that Allis B and and a H with new pistons and rings... yeah not the best of starters. Push them down a hill and within 5 ft its off and running.

Just a thought if you put it the tractor on a hill and pop start it (in 4th gear obviously have the switch out) how does it start? If everything is all nice and tidy it should hit right off. Give that a whirl

had to pull it the last time, a week ago, and it poped rite off. runs great, except a little miss in the carb, but not realy bad.

If it fires right off with a pull, then i think your ok, get the carb fixed and go from there.

When there new they take a good quick up stroke on the crank to get them to go.

rate of cranking speed if you pulling it over really slow then you will not be able to build enough vacuum to draw in the fuel. Get the carb cleaned make sure all passages are good, set it correct. Should fire on 3-5 strokes. 1 to 2 with the carb choked and 2-4 with it opened 1/2 to all the way and should fire, in a good engine.

Check your rotor to see that it lines up with the tower when it fires. If its off a tooth or so can make a big difference in the hand cranking. It should start the first time it fires whne every thing is correct. I have a couple that fire as soon as the starter enguages and run like a top.

Maybe this is a carb problem but my experience is if it has a mag and wont start by hand cranking, only pulling I would look at the impulse in the mag

I fixed a H carb a year ago that had too big of venturi in it.Some body had modified it.Does it run Ok after its is running? Check for vacuum leaks. Hole in manifold. Bad intake gasket.
