Battery Ground Location on Super C?

I'm having issues with my starter and I think it might be a bad battery ground connection. My battery ground wire is connected under one of the 4 bolts at the top of the tower that supports the steering wheel and hydraulic levers. Seems like it should be grounded directly to the tractor casting?

Those towers are very easy to get some crud under them and not giving a good ground. I repainted a 44 H and caught the devil because on the paint...had to scrape down to bare metal before I got ground. You ,ay want to look at that.

Factory grounding location is inside the battery box. It's grounded to the top bolt that holds the battery box to the instrument box.

When in doubt I run a new battery cable grounded to the starter mounting bolt. I have a local shop that custom makes cables. They have crimp fittings big enough to accomodate the bolt, 1/2" I think.

On most tractor if I can I use one of the starter mounting bolts for the ground. That way you know it is close to the starter and more likely to get a good connection to the starter

You got it right. Run the ground to a starter bolt or on that casting someplace. Made a big difference on mine. Still 6 volts & the kids start & use it all winter to haul in wood in mid Mn.

I'm not sold on the looks of running the ground to the starter bolt, BUT, I have it that way on mine and it does start every time.

On the C series i get a 1ga cable and run it to the gastank mount on the left side where it bolts to the hy unit.

Top right bolt on the battery box. Most problems are caused by bad connections, and possible corrosion inside the insulation of the cable; the cables do not last forever. Cleanliness is much more important than the size of the cable. #2 works fine for me and is on all my 6 volt systems, no problems.
