Now the liftall leaks

Replaced the leaking oil seals on the H transmission, drove it around some, it set for three days with no leaks, now the lift input shaft seal leaks. The drive coupling apparently screws off, just how do you hold the shaft while unscrewing the coupling? Tried apiece of oak and a hammer to no avail, there must be a way as the coupling is larger diameter than the seal diameter. Thanks, Joe

Stick a long wide screwdriver down the fill hole to snag a gear tooth, then it will screw off counterclockwise.

I use a brass drift and hammer and give nut some good wacks counter clockwise. You might feel like it isn't working but you have to stay at it for a while. If that doesn't do the trick you may well have to remove pump from reservoir and then you can put something up in the suction port to lock the gears. When I have to go that far I just take them all apart though.

The fill pipe opens into the reservoir, there is no access to the pump gears with a screw driver through the fill.

You may have to remove the pump and jam the gears through the intake.

Use a piece of 1/2" flat stock that is wide enough it doesn't bend easily. I used a piece of 1/2" by 2" by 8" that worked great. It will fit the slot perfectly... punches, ill fitting pieces of metal, etc will potentially crack or distort the groove.. can make it run noisily later. Use a piece about 6 or 8 inches long and smack it w/a two pound hammer.. A good sharp rap works well in "breaking it loose." Heavier hammers will work, if you can swing 'em fast enough.
