Need help with color on a 53 cub:

Hello,
I'm going to start soon on a restoration of a 53 cub. I;m looking for the "correct" paint code or name so I can have my supplies up. I've heard new holland red, which I understand was the "old IH red" just re-named. Or. just international harvester red. Any help appreciated,
Thanks,
Wayne

To: Uncle Henry and others IH red is not just IH red. There is two reds, 2150 is for the letter sieres and there is an other red for the newer models but I don't know the number.

CaseIH #2150 "Iron Guard Enamel" is currently the "correct" paint to paint your tractor with. It is the closest thing to original currently available.

Nobody really knows what the "correct" red is. Any period pictures are Kodachrome or Ektachrome, and the color is off. Anyone that tells you they can tell by eye... Well, it's not scientific and a matter of that person's opinion and recollection.

If you really want to get into specifics, there were more reds than that. 2150 didn't come along until 1961. The correct red for '53 was 201. Good luck crossing it to a current paint.

This is from the WHS archives. Go to the archives for other decisions or the other 2 pages of this one.

Thanks everyone for the replies. This gives me a direction to start looking for "the right paint" lol. Thank you again,
Wayne
