convert from 6volt to 12volt

I have a 1960 cub need to convert from 6 volt to 12 volt.What do I change?

lights, generator, battery, coil.
find you a local electric shop and talk with them.

Why would you need to change it? That little engine should start & run on 6.

Teddy I can think of many good reasons to convert a 6 volt system to 12 but only on reason to keep one 6 volt.

Easy to find lights, batteries, if done with an alternator reliability, compatability with jump starting if needed, better for an IE conversion and the list goes on.

If it has a Starter/Generator system, it will require the use of a 12v starter/generator. The change to that system is model dependant. A 12v regulator, the new Starter/Gen and light bulbs, a ballast resistor for the coil, and you are done.
If separate starter and generator, the diagrams below will work.

in 66, they went to 12v systems.. just get a gen and vreg from a 66+ cub... ( they had the square sheet metal..e tc.. )

You would need what Ken says, but I would consider leaving it 6V, they start very easy, and I can pickup 6V lights anywhere that I would find 12V lights, Bat. same place I get any Bat. NAPA, Advance, TSC, Reliability for a Gen. has been alot better for me then Alt. has been, I;ve replaced alot more of my Alt. then the Gen., you can jump one with 12V if needed, and it takes very little effort to hand crank one if it ever comes to that, just something else to think of. While I don't usually like telling people to go somewhere else for information, the site farmallcub.com has so much detailed information on this that it makes no sense to re-hash it all.

They have a whole how-to section with an article on 12V conversion over there.

In a nutshell you need a Hitachi 14231 alternator, a 12" piece of 3/8" threaded rod, a 12V battery, and new headlight bulbs. The whole job can be done with existing wiring plus a couple extras for the excite circuit.
