Paper belt pulley question

Is it a good idea to not get these wet? I need to wash my tractor and wondered if I should cover it or remove it. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Thanks,
Dan

I wouldn't get it wet on purpose, but a little rain won't kill it.

If I were washing the tractor and I had a choice I would cover it with a plastic grocery bag.

Rain will not hurt those pulleys if they are in reasonably good condition. Most of those tractors never saw the inside of a barn exept when they needed repair. My W9 sat outdoors all its life and the pulley is still good working condition. Wash it if you like it will be fine.

I agree, I would cut the first coat with 25% charcoal lighter/paint thinner. then when dry (about 24 hrs), or soaked in, I would put it on full strength. Warming it with a blow dryer (not the diluted material, and not a heat gun) will assist in the penetration. (it can be wet after the first application. Jim
