54 SH hydraulic line burst

I'm starting the restoration process on a 54 stage 2 Super H. I now have it running well. I slowly engaged the hydraulics and the motor started to labor a little and promptly split the top hydraulic hose. No cylinder attached.

I'm under the impression the pump must be good??

Is this line a standard size that NAPA can fab for me or get it from the dealer?

Hydraulic shops will have it, or make it. With nothing attached you were dead heading the system. (no issue, it is normal to do that to assure the system has integrity, and or testing pressures.) Nice SH. Jim

Either the pump is good or the pump outlet hose was really bad(!) (Most likely it's a bad hose...)

Same thing happened on my Super M a few years ago. The local fluid power shop quickly made me a replacement. I however eliminated the steel portion of the line and ran hose from the pump to the Christmas tree valve inlet.

Suggest draining and purging the pump and reservoir before replacing the busted line. The fluid spilled on the frame rail suggests the system is contaminated with water.

It's definitely contaminated.

All fluids will be drained, flushed, and replaced.

I've learned to get everything topped off and all systems working well before paint. I've had a hard lesson or 2 in the past having to repair failed seals & components not found before painting.

Your local hydraulic shop can probably make a new hose. Take the old hose along. We have Colliflower Inc in our area and they can make it while you wait. Hal

That's just a plain old H. Says so right there on the hood! It has the wrong front bolster, wrong grille, wrong brakes, wrong battery box, wrong hydraulic system... probably wrong engine too! Betcha it's geared wrong too.

Seriously, if I had a dime for every time someone who was trying to sell a plain H with Super H stickers on it...

mkirsch, is that supposed to be a joke about it being a plain old H. Or do you still have a hangover today.

Sir, May I see your correct police badge?

It's a super rare transitional tractor! Not many H's made with SH
components.

:)

Perhaps it was stickered with an H decal due to the rear rims. They'd be correct. Perhaps he should scrap the parts you mentioned and get the right ones.

Nah. Let it be. "When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Make-do comes to me Speaking words of wisdom".

PO butchered up the original SH hood installing an alternator. H hood is the replacement. SH hoods are extremely rare and hard to find in good conditon.

Does that mean I can't call it a "restoration"?

I guess I need a ruling by the CP.

I'm not sure I'd go that far and agree with that statement...some can be mighty obnoxious, when it's not their tractor being discussed.
