Super C engine RPM

Since we've had the Super C we always thought it was running a little slow. Put the tach on it and we're only getting 1450RPM no-load.

Tried adjusting the top bolt on the governor with no effect.

RPM is 1800 no load and 1650 under load. You screw the bolt on the gov out to raise the rpm's. IF they don't go up you need to take the cap off and check to see if everything is ok inside.

With the engine off have you checked the linkage going to the carb. Does the input lever have a lot of play. Gov spring is OK or you would hardly get above idle.

Governor spring is brand new.

It ran the same before the old spring broke. 1450 no load is all we've ever been able to get out of this engine.

Turned the top screw all the way out. No change in RPM.

As Gene said, how much slop in the imput shaft? Is there an extra washer with the thrust bearing? If nothing else, you could drill a small hole through each weight. It would be trial & error.

As I recall, the input shaft was not sloppy at all...

With the new spring, the throttle does not seem very "springy" at all. Maybe I'm missing that washer in the thrust bearing?

Are you sure the spring is hooked up right? I don't know if it can be wrong. When it is all together & before you hook up the linkage you should be able to feel the spring stretch as you move the imput lever.

The spring has to be in there correctly, or else the throttle wouldn't work.

The throttle works perfectly, and the tractor runs great, but it only goes to 1450 RPM.

The tractor is a MUTT, pieced together from a few other tractors. For all I know the thing has a Super A governor in it.
