gaskets or goop ?

I'm putting wide front on a Super C and decided it was time to see why the steering gear wouldn't hold any oil. It looks like the problem was that two of the bolts that hold the guts ( worm gear shaft, etc.) in the steering gear had fallen out.

I have a new seal, but the gaskets have been chopped to pieces, and I don't have enough gasket material to make them.

What do you think, cut up a cereal box or just RTV it and call it good ?

Thanks

Greg

Make a gasket. Put a THIN coat of RTV on each side of the gasket. I like to glue the gasket to one of the surfaces with RTV, apply a thin coat to the exposed gasket surface, and let it dry until not tacky before assembling. This gives me an oil-tight seal that is easily disassembled and often reusable.

I use new gaskets, they are not that expensive. If NLA, which is rare, I use the goop.

I do the same, except I never have the patience to let it fully dry.
SO I get an oil tight seal which is very tough to get a part and is never reuseable. :)
