I am looking to quiet down my farmall m it has the original shorter muffler that is straight throw. I went to tractor supply and looked at the replacements they have and they are mostly staight throw also. It doesnt seem like it would make it any quiter. should i just go get a car/truck muffler. the loud sound currently hurts my childs ears and i dont find it to pleasing after an hour or more.

A new flow though may be just fine or it may still be to loud for you all depends on if your old one has burned up the insides of it or not. Big problem with a car/truck type is it may restrict the flow to much and cause you engine problems

The muffler I just got from our local IH dealer has baffles in it, you can not see through it. It is not too loud, but the sound id not very good, kind of like a bear f arting in a barrel.

Just visit any of your local auto parts stores and ask for a muffler that has the correct inlet dimensions. If it will fit the exhaust outlet on your M, it will work. It will probably be an oval shaped muffler, and it will probably be for a car application, not a truck. I think a truck muffler would be a bit large and cumbersome setting on top of the exhaust outlet without any bracing or other support.

Call Carter & Gruenwald Implement in WI. Talk to Ken in parts and get their muffler. It is the same sound as original and much better than a TSC muffler.

Did I see something about Ken having stainless steel mufflers being fabricated for some of the lettered models?

Ear plugs, or better the ones that look like earphones. Get the ones that reduce 30 db or so, the ones you will find in a farm store are pretty junky. www.gemplers has them.I use them, but it is too late. Started losing my hearing in 1950, the year I first drove our H. You want them regardless of the muffler you put on. They are all loud and will cause deafness unless you are very lucky.

That's right, anything louder than 80 (or is it 85) sustained will cause hearing loss. It hurts your kids ears because they still have that part of their hearing. It doesn't hurt you because you already ruined that part.

On my H, I put a new straight-thru, and it was very loud, too loud. Bought another new one from Case-IH, with baffled-internals, , and it started out a few months ago too loud too, but it for some reason it has got quiter and quiter as the months go by. Now it has that nice deep Farmall sound. My kids like it alot.

Old boy shows up at the coffee shop, bragging about his new hearing aid. Says it's the most expensive, smallest, high-tech hearing aid he could find. Buddy asks "What kind is it??"
Old boy looks at his watch "Oh it's about 12:30."
Yeh, you may be right.
