Hitachi Alternator Braket (Yooper Farmall?)

I have a Hitachi Alternator that I'm getting ready to install on my SM. I was doing a bit of Googling and saw that Yooper Farmall had a new bracket that he used to install his.

I've seen replacement brackets for the 10si but never the Hitachi so I was wondering if it's something that was available for purchase or something custom made?

I know I can use the original bracket with some threaded rod but I would like a cleaner setup.

Thanks,

K

Threaded rod doesn't spin my beannie either. A lonk bolt, and a pipe spacer looks good using the original bracket.
Putting it together with the threaded rod, then removing the bracket and remaking it to duplicate the offset would be pretty easy. Jim

Here's a braket I made to install a 'Delcotron' on a Super H.Was pretty easy to make.I made a similar one 5 years ago for the Super M,also. They both work well and do not interfere with the hood.

How do you guys get these alternators to fit by just flipping the bracket?

I put a hitachi on my Super H. We flipped the bracket over and installed it with threaded rod.

The alternator stuck out the side by a good INCH... I had to manufacture relocating blocks to raise and rotate the alternator so it would tuck under the hood.

Same thing with a Delco 10si on my Super M... Everybody says just flip the bracket over and use a threaded rod.

Again I tried and the alternator stuck out the side. It was closer than the Hitachi, and I got away with simply drilling new holes.

My delco went under the M hood no problem, hardest part and it wasn't very hard was making a complete new wiring harness for the tractor. Maybe a shorter belt?????

Here are a few pictures of the brackets that I make for the Hitachi/Mitsubishi alternator kits.
The mounting bracket for the Farmall H uses the OE belt. The brackets for the 300/350 rquires the use of a shorter belt because the backside of the belt rubs the bottom of the thermostat housing. Both of these kits allow the hood to fit nicely. I have more pictures, my e-mail is open if anybody wants to see more.

Flipping the bracket just lowers the alternator. The correct length belt keeps it inside the hood. I installed
the alternator with it right up against the block then measure for a belt.

I mounted a Delco alternator on an H and had clearance so the hood fit properly without butchering it up.
It's tight. The belt needs to be short and you have to have the alternator off when you put the belt on.
Assemble it and tighten. I did later have an issue with the belt stretching and didn't have enough clearance
to tighten it. I replaced the belt with another brand and haven't had any issues yet.

After that I went to Hitachi alternators. Much easier to work with.

Picture shows my 300 and Hitachi alternator. I have about a 1/4"-1/2" clearance between the alternator and block.

(quoted from post at 05:43:06 05/20/12) I like that set up. What model alternator is that?

It's a Hitachi # 14231, you wires exactly the same way as a 10si but it's smaller so you wont have any clearance issues.

I got a rebuilt one from the local auto parts store for around 50 bucks so they're reasonable too.

You're email isn't open? :)

Would that same bracket fit my SM? If so I would like to talk to you.

Thanks,

Thank you, I jotted that down. I am still going to check with Ken Updike. He has the whole kit. I am going to start with the M at my Indy house.

I wondered if you were the same "The Red". I used to read your posts all the time. I haven't seen you on here very much recently, then again I don't read YTMag quite a religiously as I used to.

Anyway, I was going to do the kits business but they seemed pretty pricy and all of them that I found came with the 10si, which isn't a bad unit I just didn't want to shoe horn the thing under the hood. The bracket will probably make the price a little more comparable to the kits but I can make up decent wiring harness my self and those tend to be pricy.

Yep same one. I have had numerous distractions over the past 3 years so I really put the tractor stuff on hold.

Good to see you back. Tractors can and do wait. I've got a few that have been very patient with me.

The 1947 Farmall "Raceway M" I have at Indianapolis only saw heavy farming up in Boone County, Indiana (just northwest of Indy) from 1947 to 1969. It then had very seldom and light duty at a campground next to Indy Raceway Park until 2002 when I bought it. It was never stored over there inside. Probably 10 hours running since 2002. One H, in the barn, at the farm hasn't been turned over in 10 years. That is how they never age!!

Both alternators hit the brackets long before they swung in below hood level... Belts were too short if anything.
