Red Power Roundup -- advice for a first timer

My Dad, my 7 year old son and I plan on going to Red Power Roundup in July. We're going to get there Thursday afternoon and leave on Saturday afternoon. This is our first time going. Dad has to rest every now and then. Any advice on what to expect? Should we spend more time in one area than another? Any tips on when certain areas are the crowdest? What should a first timer focus on? Any insight is appreciated.

Everyone likes something different. Personally, I spend most of my time digging through the swap meet and vendors. Then the couple hours I have left, I study the rare tractors.

Remember than by mid day Saturday, most will tractors will be loaded up and many already gone.

It's just a big show with plenty of friendly people. You will have plenty of time to go through and see everything. Just slow down, take your time, and enjoy. I've been to a lot of them in recent years and they are all good in their own individual ways.

The grounds at DuQuoin has lots of shade trees. I'd say take your time, sit and visit, you will know what you want to see. But the boy is gonna want to run. Stay flexible and don't try to be a 3some all the time. My dad went with me to Red Power one time. He sat in a chair and visited while I went out roaming around. We were there three days and he had a ball! Also, the children's author Billy Steers (Tractor Mac) will be there telling stories and will have special programs for the young ones in the pavilion.

Cowman, Is the parking on site or will we be doing the bus thing from remote parking locations? In Albert Lea they didn't have much on site parking for the normal show visitors as most were bussed in to the show location.
Did you get any recent rain as I saw some was in your area on the weather map yesterday? It is certainly dry around here and lawn grass starting to turn brown for the summer it appears. We have a chance of rain tomorrow evening but nothing after that for a week or more so down comes some more hay, Hal.
P.S. The Farmall 656 is a really nice tractor - if it has any issues they are well hid at this point. The trucker told me it was the best starting and running tractor he has ever hauled and that number was over 900 tractors sometime last year.

Yes, parking on site. The facility is the home of the DuQuoin State Fair and they are equipped to handle LARGE crowds. We did get some rain here this afternoon. Maybe upwards to an inch and it was sure needed. I was at a sale south toward McCook and it rained there some too but not as much as here at home, a little marble size hail too. I bought an old Hesston 1014 swather and drug it home. I guess I'm hoping I'll have more hay to cut sometime.
