a few yrs ago i bought a very nice 184 lowboy to mow 5 acres, its been working great until last night while mowing i noticed the shifter began to get sloppy and progressivly got worse to the point i could hardly get in in reverse or 2nd gear.just hoping someone on here might have any ideas on where to start or if anyone has run across this. Thanks for viewing.Larry

Two things come tomind, if this shifts like my old H. (Might be the same, mightn ot be.)
There is a eBay product called Sloppy Shifter Fix, for about $20, that replaces the shifter bolts, if that's the sort of ting your IH has. Second, the end of the shifter lever could probably be worn down to a nub. I think it has to be re-built up to aabout 3/4" fore-and-aft, and 0.030" thick.
Did both things for my H, and problem-cured.

Once you take the top off the transmission, I think your problem will be obvious.
Broken forks or loose fork bolts are a very common problem on the Cub.

Thanx for responding guys kinda feels as if thats exactly where the problem is,and to whoever posted the link with the pix,WOW great job !
I"ll tear into it this weekend and keep you posted. Thanks again !

One more question guys
After taking a look at the loboy 184 i notice the cover over the top of the trans.is all one piece that wraps around the top that also has the fenders attached to it,which looks like i"d have to remove the real wheels first to gain access.does all this have to be removed to gain access to the top of the trans or is there enough room to get the shifter out through the back panel behind the seat that can be removed seperatly ? thanks again for your help guys.
