Odd problem with my BA The fix

Found it had a bad rotor. I knew since it had spark from the coil wire but not the plug wires it had to be either the cap or rotor of both and it was a bad rotor. Seen more then one rotor just up and stop working over the years but have yet to figure out just goes wrong with them

When the rotor fails it usually has a carbon path either around the outer edges of the rotor or right down through it to the dist shaft. Hard to tell why but no doubt excessive voltage requirement of jumping from rotor tip to dist cap would be a likely suspect or the center contact point in cap as well. A little moisture on rotor would make it easier to form this carbon track. While on this subject, most caps that are supposedly cracked are actually carbon tracking and appear to be a slight crack.

Like Pete said, it was probably jumping through to the shaft, this used to be common on some auto ignitions. You usually cannot see where it is getting through . Sometimes will leave a carbon track or pinhole, but not always. I didnt think the low power ignitions did much of that kind of thing , but obviously its possible.
