M MTA Power Steering Hoods

I have two Farmall M's and a MTA that my Dad had power steering installed on years ago and they butchered the hoods in the process. What is a good steering unit that can be installed under a stock hood and where is the best place to buy it?Also, does anyone know where I can find some more hoods ?

Charlynn Torque Generator will fit. I have a SMTA with that setup,

I'd go with a Behlen as pictured below. That is a SMTA.

SMTA hoods will be expensive. MD and SMD hoods are the correct length but the exhaust holes are on the wrong sides.

Did they butcher the hoods for the pump and res or the torque generator itself? It would be easy to make the pump/res setup work and a lot cheaper than a "new" PS system.

Pictures?

Have you checked with your local body shops? Some of these shops can work miracles. Where are you located? I know of some body shops in Il. Armand

dont junk the old hoods. like armand said, a good body shop can stitch weld a patch in there and you will never know. probably have it done cheaper than what you would pay for another hood in good condition.

Figured you would reply sooner or later. Always trying to promte local body shops and blacksmiths/welding shops. BTW whats the progress on your rock picker bucket? Armand

still in the planning stages. i have an extra remote on the skidsteer. was thinking if i can scrounge up some 1x3 bar stock i can weld up an attachment to hook to my regular bucket on the loader. then use some kind of conveyor belting and make a rotor with a hydraulic motor to sweep the stones into the bar stock with about a 2 or 3 inch spacing. that should stir the dirt loose from the stones, then just flip the bucket back a little to get the stones into the bucket. looked at some of those rock buckets on the internet, holy cow, over a grand for one. being on the frugal side, i prefer shopping at my iron pile!!!

I would fix what you have as well. You can buy a junk hood for next to nothing and give it to the body shop to make patch panels out of.

I have purchased 2 Char-Lynn units from ebay for under $500 each.
If you google waltstractors, They carry a lot of Farmall power steering components but the torque generators can get pretty salty. I'm pretty sure the parts section of this sight sells some components also.

They cut out the side for the pump that could probably be fixed. But they cut out a large hole on the top in front of the quages and added flat pieces to make it higher to cover the torque generator. This would be pretty hard to fix. I'll try to send some pictures in a couple of days.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the 400's hood work for the SMTA? I thought I remembered someone telling me this once.

Not a chance, a 400 hood is COMPLETELY different.
