My father had/has a tractor that has a decal on the front that states the letter IH which I believe it to be an International Harvester, the model is FAA 1 or I and has a serial number of 262283. From what I've been able to find out I think it's an International Harvester. Can anyone give me some advice or help in determining what this tractor is and maybe how old it may be. I have no use for it and would like to sell it in the future once I have an idea of what it is so that I can list it with some information. Thank you all for your time and information.

I'm not even close to an expert on the offset small Farmalls but that "1" or "I" you note following the model code of FAA might indicate it is also the Industrial variant of a Super A as noted by JRSutton. An Industrial model can usually be noted as having a foot throttle and the stronger front axle and maybe some other unique features - If these features are present it is probably an Industrial as well, Hal.

Good point - never even considered the I.

I believe the front axle was a square tube as opposed to round on those.

Pretty far from being an expert too though.

The serial is too low to be a Super A-1. FAA makes it a Farmall, IAA would make it a International (or so-called industrial), don't know what the 1 or I is -- maybe a nervous serial stamper.

(quoted from post at 20:52:38 05/16/12) maybe a nervous serial stamper.
I've occasionally seen or heard of a slightly strange serial prefix on the Super A series of tractors. I don't think it is impossible for there to be a few that were simply mis-stamped.

I believe the sequence numbers were pre-stamped. Then as the tractors were built, the appropriate prefix was stamped. If a mis-stamped plate was discarded, the sequence number would have also needed to be "scrapped" (skipped from the sequence numbers). I suspect there would have been a strong temptation to let some errors slide on through.
