Restoring my 504 gas rc
Can any body tell me was the generator,or altanator and the starter"s factory color.
Pretty sure they were red but maybe black
Any ideas?

Tractors with alternators used to come from the factory painted red with a hap hazard swatch of masking tape mark over the diode end to keep most paint out of the insides.
 
The alternators have openings in the ends for cooling. Some generator did also, but some generators are completely closed. Any alternator or generator with an opening in the end was masked off during painting at the factory, then they pulled the tape off, thus leaving a delco remy paint job under the part that was taped off. On generators , that was black, on alternators, it was aluminum color. In other words you don't want paint inside the unit so they covered the openings.
 
Maybe it was because my generator was previously rebuilt on my F504, but I remember it being black before I put a Delco 1-wire on it. The Delco alternator is cast aluminum. My starter is black, it may have been OH'ed before too? I do not know if they were red or not fresh from IH. My F504 is 18 years older than me!

When I finally paint my F504, the starter will be black and I will not put the generator back on it. I have 2 OEM head lights, 2 55 watt trapezoids on the loader and the OEM rear light. The generator could not keep up.
