Super A replacement seat problems

I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I unbolted the springs and took the old seat off. But, when I went to go back with the new one, it don't want to fit right. To get the springs to line up with the holes, I've got to push them in A LOT. Then the release rod on the bottom is over lapping the springs and will not latch or unlatch (just like the old one) and the seat will move just not freely (just like the old one). I put the new seat on just like the old one came off (seeing a pattern). My old seat was rusted out and the springs were welded together and all screwed up so I don't know how it's supposed to act but this doesn't seem right. Are the springs supposed to be setting square or is one side to be ahead of the other? If so, which side? I don't know what to do. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,Todd.

Springs are square, sounds like you need new springs. Can't say anymore without seeing it.

I have replaced many with no problems the replacement springs have always worked well. The rod stop on some replacements seats can let the rod go too far forward. The springs should line up even when they are in the same holes across the upright brackets. They should be the same length.

OK, when I said the brackets were square, I did not look at my SA. On mine the attachment on the seat is in the 3rd hole on the left breacket, the 4th hole on the right. I put a new seat on mine and did not count the holes, I just put it where I wanted it and where it fit. I don't know if this will help or not. If it doesn't someone sold you either the wrong or improperly made brackets or seat. Perhaps the brackets were made for a B, not sure they are the same, gene bender will know.

The springs should be bolted in the same position on each side. There is usually a fair amount of leeway on exactly where the springs end up because of slack in the bolt holes. You should be able to install everything with the bolts a bit loose. Then slide things around until the seat latch works and tighten the bolts. All parts are identical on A and B seats.

Hi

I have a similar problems when putting on new springs. I found that when the springs where riveted together they where not lined up. I took the rivet out and filed the holes until everything lined up and the seat worked right and then bolted the spring back together. I always had a problem with the left spring.

Cheers

Russ
