Logo question

(quoted from post at 08:11:05 05/12/12) When was the "IH" inside the "C" replaced with just the "IH" logo?

I`m sure others will have a more precise date, but I`m pretty sure I read it somewhere that it was in 1945 .

I believe 1945 was when the IH appeared appeared before the Farmall on the hood. However at that time I think that IH enclosed by the C was still being used on the gauges, etc. I have no proof of that except that I think my dad's 47 H was that way. IH was probably phased in over a period of time, only my opinion.

Yeah, like both other replies said, the logo came along in about 1945. I think the first public displays were in advertising. Equipment decals started to change pretty quickly after that. There was evidently no concerted effort to change logos cast into parts or other more difficult to change places. As long as a part pattern was good, they kept using it.

Here are some of the earliest images with the IH logo I have found on the Wisconsin Historical Society web site. The first 2 are from 1945, the third 1946. The big outdoor display was the post-war equipment show at Hinsdale.
