Hey guys,
Finally got my last pieces for my starter (The 3/8s x 24 FLAT head bolts for the field coils)Sandblasted case, nose and end plate. New brushes, starter drive,ALL new bushings.Reconditioned the armature.(It was in good shape to begin with.)I even re taped the field coils.(Old paper was turning to dust!!! lol)That insulating tape was KINDA hard to locate ??? New starter switch.
.I painted it BLACK and added a 12 volt Delco tag.(Thought I would "upgrade" it.:) I KNOW,NOT "Farmall correct".I just wanted it to look like a 60's style replacement like me and dad used to pick up at the rebuilder's when I was a kid.It will really "stick out" on my semi old,dry rotted tires, fading paint tractor !!! lol

Correct police,PLEASE dont throw rocks!!! lol

I just love those phillips head screws you can get now day for the field coils. Back in the day it was a real pain to tighten them. We even made a tool to put in the small press so you could tighten them with out beating up the screw head but it didn't work very well. An impact driver type tool and phillips heads works great.

Mike,

Did you get a new copper contact for the switch too? I've got 2 starters of our C's at the rebuilder's and he says he can't get them. Thought I'd recently seen a post saying they were still available. Markus

My post that passes thru the case was perfect(DO NOT know how???)So I re used mine.

There IS a guy on EBAY who sells a kit that does have a new post/contact in it.I just looked at it 2 days ago.

Been 22 years plus but I started with a 1949 C. That starter looks identical that was on that machine. Also a farm neighbor had a Super M that had that conifugration I believe on a super M. I remember you pulled a shaft to start it, not a starter button he had on his other Hs and Ms.

No, No, No. It doesn't go on a tractor. It rests on the mantle over the fireplace! I kept a polished Stromberg 97 carb off my flathead hot rod on mine:)

Yea RED,My Stage 2 Super M Louisville has a "pull rod" on it!!! But a lot of fellows converted them to that Push Button on the column.

If it was a Stage 1 Super M with a 2 bolt starter, chances are it WAS a push button starter mounted NEAR the base of the steering column.(TOTALLY different starter)

AND,these were all painted OVER with RED at Farmall from what I am told. They shot over belts, hoses, wireing, ect.

A TRUE factory tractor paint job had drips, sags, and a LARGE amount of over spray on it. The ones we mostly see today are WAY overly restored.(NOT mine!!!)
