I"m looking for someone in North Florida that may be interested in working on my IH 674, (D239) tractor at my place. The blowby got really bad last year and I parked it back in the shed before I did some damage. I haven"t been able to find anyone in the area and I"ve never worked on the inside of a diesel. I have a family member that will let me use his concrete-floored barn and overhead a-frame lift/chain hoist for the work. I really don"t have a way to haul it anywhere. The tractor is in pretty good shape other than that. I had changed out the hydraulic pump a few years ago. The tranny, PTO, etc. all seem to be fine.
Thanks

Hi, how many hours on the 674? Engine should be good for 10,000 plus hours if it was properly maintained. Could be a broken ring if someone was over aggressive with ether. Although I would not think ether would be required in Florida.

Unfortunately I don't know how many hours are on it. The hour meter hasn't worked since I've owned it. My father in law took as payment for a debt, but mostly just used it for pulling watermelon wagons and little pine tree planting. I've had it for close to ten years, but never used it alot, mostly to mow during the summers and break up food plots in the fall. It always burned a little oil, but didn't have much blow by. A few years ago it started having a little blow by and it progressively got worse. Now it will blow out a quart or two in an hour of moderate to heavy use. I tend to agree that it might have a broken ring.
