Will a two bolt m starter mount on a 400 tractor? I know the 400 had three bolts but was wondering if it would bolt up not using the third mounting hole? Reason I ask is I have a guy that has a good m starter I can use until I can fix the 400 starter (will need a lot of work).

Try and change the nose cone that just mite work.

If the field windings are good on the 400 starter, you could just take the armature and brushes out of the M starter and transplant them.

Swapping the nose cone is a precision welding job. Not for the faint of heart.

You can change the drive end frame but you will still be missing the starter switch that mounts on the 400 starter.
