i was wondering if any one new how hard rearends on farmall a1 are hard to work on?i found one for $900 but had rearend noise. it has a bar mower on it. just like to get an idea of how big of a job this is. i am a green guy but red is my next choice. dont want to bite off more than i can chew.. thank you for your input.

Super A1s are rare for sure, you have to make sure you have all matching castings, good tag and good tin. They can be worth 3500+ plus if all correct and in good shape. The trans are easy to work on, if you have done any trans work in the past youll be fine.

All depends on just where the noise you say rear end they had a noise when new due to straight cut gears. I would replace the lube in the pans with 150 and then see what kind of noise could be a bad bearing on the axle or the one at the end of the diff shaft does the wheel havea wobble and can you wiggle it when jacked up. My self i wouldnt worry about it just too much.
